Qurbani is the sacrifice offered on the days of Eid al-Adha in remembrance of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). For most Muslims in the UK it also raises a practical question: how do I make sure it is done correctly, on the right days, and that the meat reaches people who would otherwise go without?
iHelp Global has arranged Qurbani in Pakistan and Tanzania for over a decade. Local teams buy healthy animals from nearby farmers, carry out the sacrifice after the Eid prayer, and distribute the fresh meat to families, widows and orphans in the same communities the charity works with all year round.

Animals are sourced locally, supporting farmers while ensuring fresh meat. Each animal is checked for age and health before sacrifice.
On Eid, after the prayer, iHelp Global’s local teams distribute the meat to families in need, prioritising widows and orphaned children.
“And for every nation We have appointed a rite [of sacrifice] that they may mention the name of Allah over what He has provided for them.” (Holy Qur’an 22:34)
Every plate you provide is a share in that reward, and a comfort to someone who had all but given up on a warm meal.
Eid Meat For Families Who Never Get To Buy It
For many families in villages, meat is a rare luxury. Eid al-Adha may be their only chance to enjoy it, thanks to someone choosing to give their Qurbani there. Orphans and widows supported year-round are prioritised.
What Qurbani Is, and Who It Is For
Qurbani (Udhiyah) is the sacrifice of a permitted animal during the days of Eid al-Adha, from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah. It commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) willingness to sacrifice his son at Allah's command, and the ram that Allah provided in his place. In the Hanafi school it is considered obligatory for every adult Muslim who owns wealth above the Nisab threshold; other schools regard it as a strongly emphasised Sunnah. Either way, it is one of the defining acts of Eid.
The Qur'an makes its purpose clear: "It is not their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him" (Surah Al-Hajj, 22:37). The sacrifice is an act of obedience; the meat is a means of sharing. Traditionally a third is kept, a third given to relatives and neighbours, and a third to the poor. When Qurbani is given through a charity working where poverty is deepest, the whole animal goes to that final share. Qurbani is separate from Zakat, and giving one does not discharge the other.
