Calculate Your Zakat
Work Out What You Owe.
Zakat is 2.5% of your qualifying wealth, held for a full lunar year, once that wealth passes the Nisab threshold. The rule is simple; the difficulty is knowing what to count. Gold you wear, a pension you can't yet access, money a friend owes you, stock sitting in a business – each has its own treatment.
This calculator walks you through the categories one at a time. Enter what you hold, deduct what you owe, and it shows your Zakat against today's Nisab. If you're unsure about a specific asset, the notes further down the page explain what is normally included and why.

What Is Nisab?
Zakat a right, a responsibility
The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must hold before Zakat becomes due. It is fixed in weight – 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver – and converted to pounds at the current market price, which is why the figure changes daily. If your net qualifying wealth has stayed above the Nisab for a full lunar year, you owe 2.5% of it.
Because silver is far cheaper than gold, the silver Nisab is much lower, and more people fall above it. iHelp Global's calculator uses the silver Nisab, following the Hanafi school and the view that it is more cautious and benefits more recipients. If you follow an opinion that uses the gold Nisab, the current gold figure is shown below so you can check against it.

What Counts Towards Zakat?
Zakat is due on wealth that is yours, that has grown or could grow, and that you've held for a lunar year. In practice that means cash and savings, gold and silver in any form, shares and investments, money owed to you that you expect back, and trading stock in a business. Property counts only if you bought it to sell; the home you live in does not.
It is not due on things you use rather than hold: your home, your car, furniture, clothing, tools and equipment used for work. Debts you owe – rent, bills, loan repayments due this year, business creditors – are deducted before the 2.5% is applied. If you hold assets that don't fit neatly into these categories, a qualified scholar can advise; the calculator gives you a sound starting point.
Where Your Zakat Goes
The Qur'an names those entitled to Zakat: the poor, the needy, those who administer it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, captives, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and stranded travellers (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:60). Every Zakat project iHelp Global offers is chosen to fall within those categories – food packs for families in poverty, clean water for villages without it, care for orphaned children, and livelihood support that helps a household stand on its own.
iHelp Global's local teams in Tanzania and Pakistan identify recipients directly, so your Zakat reaches people who qualify for it rather than being spent at a distance. Because Zakat is an obligation with conditions, it is kept separate from general donations and used only for eligible work. You can choose a specific Zakat-eligible project when you donate, or give to the Zakat fund and let the teams direct it where need is greatest.
