What Zakat Really Is
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. It is not a gift you choose to give - it is a duty. Every adult Muslim whose wealth is more than the Nisab must give 2.5% of it, once a full Islamic (lunar) year has passed.
The word “Zakat” means to purify. By giving a set share of what Allah has given you, your wealth is made clean, and a right is returned to those who are owed it. It is worship and help in one act.
How Much Zakat

Zakat is 2.5% of your eligible wealth - including savings, gold, silver, cash and business assets - once a lunar year has passed.
Zakat becomes due when your wealth reaches the Nisab, the minimum threshold equal to 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver. As gold and silver prices change, always check the current Nisab value before calculating your Zakat.
